Tummy Tuck Recovery

Tummy Tuck recovery is one of the biggest doubts at the time of performing this surgical procedure and is currently one of the most performed surgeries.  This procedure improves the appearance of the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat, in order to obtain a firmer abdomen.

But you may wonder… What is the recovery process like?

The Tummy Tuck is very popular among women with fat accumulated in the lower abdomen as a result of weakened muscles after pregnancy or over the years.

How does it work?

During the Tummy Tuck, a strategic incision is made in the lower abdomen, usually from iliac crest to iliac crest, and excess skin and fat are removed. The abdominal muscles are then tightened and the umbilicus is repositioned. The incision is closed with sutures and bandages are applied to support the treated area.

Recovery

Recovery after abdominoplasty can vary from patient to patient. It is common to experience swelling, bruising and discomfort in the abdominal area during the first few weeks after surgery; it is recommended to avoid strenuous physical activity and heavy lifting for several weeks to allow the body to recover properly.

Normally patients can return to work after 2 or 3 weeks; returning to the gym will take approximately 6 weeks and you should start with cardiovascular exercises; and if you are considering a vacation it should be between 3 to 4 months after surgery.

Also, you should know that the scar will begin to minimize in approximately 3 months.
