GYNECOMASTIA OR MALE BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY
Gynecomastia is a medical condition that affects 40 to 60 percent of all men to some degree. It is sometimes referred to as “man boobs” due to the enlarged appearance similar to a woman’s breasts. Male breast reduction surgery can significantly enhance a man’s self-esteem and confidence.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
You may benefit from male breast reduction surgery if you experience physical and emotional discomfort from having overly large breast tissue. Typical forms of physical pain include chafing, rashes, and irritation caused by excess folds of skin rubbing against each other. Emotionally, having overly large breast tissue can be a source of embarrassment and low self-esteem.
PROCEDURE
Various techniques are used to treat gynecomastia, depending on your particular case. This includes the amount of tissue that needs to be removed, the presence of excess fat, and the quality of the skin. The procedure may involve removing skin or tissue, liposuction, modifying the nipples, or a combination of these methods. Male breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia and can take up to 3 hours. The best approach for your situation will be determined during pre-op evaluations.
RECOVERY
During your gynecomastia surgery recovery, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions. An elastic bandage or support garment may help minimize swelling and support your new chest contour as it heals. Drains will also be placed for the first 2-3 weeks. You can return to an office job after two weeks.
RESULTS
Gynecomastia surgery results are immediately visible, but the final results may take 3-6 months. Although incision lines are permanent, they will continue to fade over time.
COST
The cost of breast reconstruction can vary depending on individual needs, but it is typically between $5,500 – $7,500.
