Breast Reduction

Breast reduction also known as reduction mammaplasty is a procedure to remove the excess of breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size that is more proportionate to your body.

This procedure is a great option for those with disproportionately large breasts who are looking for a smaller size to suits their body type. Overly large breasts can cause physical strains such as neck or back discomfort, as well as under breast rashes. It’s important to note that the emotional discomfort often associated with having large breasts is as important of a factor as physical discomfort and pain.

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia through incisions on your breasts to remove the excess of fat, glandular tissue and skin. There are different excision techniques such as liposuction, but it is all dependent on the amount of breast tissue being removed. The technique used to reduce the size of your breasts will be determined by your individual condition, breast composition, amount of reduction desired, all discussed in your pre-operatory consultation

You can expect some tiredness, discomfort, and pain for a few days after the surgery.  You’ll be wearing a post-operative bra for a couple of weeks and have some dressings over your incisions for a few days. Most patients can return to work after 2 weeks and they’re cleared to do physical activity after between 6-8 weeks.

Breast reduction results are immediately visible. Although they’ll be some initial swelling, over time it will subside, and incision lines will fade. Satisfaction with your new image should continue to grow as you recover.

The cost for a breast reduction can vary depending on each patient’s individual needs but it is typically $9,000 – $9,500
