Questionsabout Face Lift Procedures:

Who Is A Good Candidate for Facelift Surgery?

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your face because of sagging facial and neck skin you may be a good candidate for a facelift procedure at Dr. Leong's Pittsburgh practice. During your consultation with Dr. Leong, he will perform a complete assessment of your concerns including the condition of your skin, your underlying anatomy, your individual desires and how much aging is evident on your face.

Dr. Leong's goal is to provide you with the most complete rejuvenation possible, while adhering to the principals of a safe and dependable facelift. If appropriate, Dr. Leong may recommend an additional procedure to attain the best possible result. Quite often, a patient that presents for a facelift also has heavy, droopy eyelids. These patients often benefit from a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) at Dr. Leong's Pittsburgh practice. If the patient has a brow that has decended causing a tired appearance, Dr. Leong may recommend a browlift procedure. Other patients may have excess fat in some areas of the face which is treated with facial liposuction. Alternatively, some patients need more volume to address facial hollowing and are treated with a fat transfer procedure.

What is a Facelift?

FaceLift/Rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure used to address the problems of the lower two-thirds of the face including removal of sagging skin and excess fat, tightening of neck muscles, jowls and - cheeks that have become hollow and deflated.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift Procedure?
If you are in otherwise good health – and you have realistic expectations about dealing with the appearance of a sagging face and neck skin – you are a good candidate.

Can a Facelift procedure deal with other areas of my face?
No. Facelift deals only with the lower two-thirds of your face. It will not eliminate wrinkles around your mouth or lines and wrinkles in the eye area or forehead. Dr. Leong’s patients combine other procedures to deal with these areas.

Can a person of any age have Facelift surgery?
Most of Dr. Leong’s candidates for Facelift surgery in the Pittsburgh area are aged forty to sixty (plus) – but people of other ages can have Facelift surgery also.

Where will Dr. Leong perform my Facelift surgery?
Dr. Leong will perform your FaceLift surgery in a state-of-the-art, out-patient surgery center, or at one of several outstanding Pittsburgh area hospitals where Dr. Leong has admitting privileges to perform facial plastic surgery.

What anesthesia is involved with Facelift surgery?
This will be discussed during your personal, one-on-one consultation with Dr. Leong. Either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation can be used, depending on patient preference.

How long will my Facelift surgery take?
This varies with each patient since many patients choose to combine other procedures with their Facelift surgery – but plan on several hours.

Will I have scars after my Facelift surgery?
Dr. Leong places the incisions in very inconspicuous locations on the face. These normally heal as thin thread-like lines and are well camouflaged.

Is Facelift surgery painful?
You will experience mild pain and discomfort. Your discomfort will be easily managed with oral pain medication.

What can I expect during Facelift surgery recovery?
Swelling, bruising, puffiness and are all normal and to be expected. Numbness can also occur and is normal. You must keep your head elevated for the first few days to help manage swelling. Bruising and puffiness will decrease each day. After one week of bruising and swelling are substantially reduced and patients can interact easily with the public with the help of a little bit of makeup. After about two weeks, most patients can resume full normal activity.

What can I expect right after Facelift surgery?
Bandages will be applied to your head and neck which will be removed the next day. Dr. Leong may then decide you need a lighter bandage for a few days.

When will I be able to return to work after a facelift procedure?

Dr. Leong will determine this – but typically his patients are presentable and able to return to work in about two weeks.

What about exercise and daily activities after a facelift procedure?
You will need to restrict your activities per instructions we will give you. You will not be able to perform any strenuous activities until healing is complete-2-3 weeks at least.

Remember: If it doesn’t look natural – it doesn’t look good.
Dr. Leong is skilled in achieving the most natural looking results possible - he’s a specialist and you can trust your face to him.
