rhinoplasty (nose job)

Rhinoplasty
View 1: Right Lateral
Jayne is a 43 year old lady from Pittsburgh, PA. She was very concerned with her moderate nasal hump and her bulbous nasal tip. This right lateral view shows that the tip of the nose has been rotated slightly upward and the moderate sized hump on the nose has been reduced. In general, a woman’s nose should be a little more rotated upwards than a man’s nose – the surgery achieved this goal. The nasal hump has been reduced in height to give a good cosmetic outcome, but care was taken to avoid reducing the hump too much and giving that patient an “operated” look. If it doesn’t look natural, it doesn’t look good! Reducing the dorsum too much can also result in difficulty breathing through the nose. Every nasal surgery is a delicate balance between cosmetic goals and making sure the nose breaths well. Jayne didn’t have major problems breathing through her nose prior to surgery, but she breaths even better post-operatively.

View 2: Right Oblique
The right oblique view gives a nice look at the improvements that were made to the nasal tip. Before the surgery the nasal tip had a bifurcated appearance, as though it was split down the middle. This bothered the patient a lot. You can see in the post-operative picture that the split tip is gone and the nasal tip is more refined. In general, improving the appearance of the tip requires more skills and experience than reducing hump on the dorsum of the nose.

Rhinoplasty
View 3: Frontal
The frontal view provides a nice look at how the abrupt and angular shape of her nasal tip was softened. The goal of rhinoplasty is to make the nose more harmonious with the face so that it doesn’t distract from the other facial features. Jayne has very pretty eyes and we focus on them more in the post-op pictures because of the less distracting nose.

Rhinoplasty
View 5: Left Lateral
Note the nasal tip is slightly higher than the nasal dorsum. This is the classical ideal of the relationship between the tip and dorsum for the Caucasian nose. Also note the crisper transition from the upper lip to the nose. Finally, the nasal tip has been slightly deprojected – this means the nasal tip is slightly closer to the face after the surgery. This subtle refinement provides greater balance between the nose and the rest of the face.
