Questions about Restylane Treatments

How is Restylane® Made?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance which exists in the dermis (middle layer) of the skin in every human being. Its purpose is to provide fullness and volume to the skin. Restylane® was the first dermal filler made from non-animal based hyaluronic acide. This is a crystal clear gell called NASHA – Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid and it is bio-degradable, completely compatible with human hyaluronic acid and is totally stable. It is identical to what our own bodies manufacture.

How safe if Restylane®?
Restylane® has been in use by cosmetic surgeons since 1996 – worldwide. There is virtually no risk of animal-based desease transmissions or allergic reaction since this is a non-animal based –fully biocompatible product. Restylane® is FDA approved.

How does Restylane® work?
After Dr. Leong has injected it into your skin (using a very tiny needle) – into the mid to deep dermis – the NASHA gel adds volume and fullness which smoothes out wrinkles and folds. Then the gel integrates into dermal tissue, attracts and binds to water molecules and helps to maintain volume. Your results are visible instantly!

How long will the results last?
Your results typically will last for 6 months or longer. Results from Restylane® last twice as long as results from collagen. Restylane, like all injectables, tends to last longer in areas of the face that move less (eg. below the eyes) compared to areas that move more (eg. lips).

Botox® and Restylane® - what’s the difference?
Botox is not a dermal filler. It is a nerve neuro transmission blocker that when injected into the muscle causes it to relax so that your skin is allowed to relax and wrinkles smooth out. Restylane® - like Juvederm™ - is a dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid - the same as our bodies produce – except as we age the production of it slows down and folds and wrinkles begin to appear.

Is a Restylane® injection treatment painful?
No. Dr. Leong is an expert in performing all injectable treatments and his patients do not complain of pain – rather minor discomfort. This is minimized with local anesthetic at the injection sites during treatment. After treatment his patient’s return to work or normal activity!

How does Restylane® differ from bovine collagen?
Bovine collagen is animal-based (from cows) and may cause allergic reaction inhumans. Pre-testing is required before receiving collagen treatments. Restylane® is non-animal based and requires no pre-testing or waiting and there is no risk of allergic reaction. Also, the results from Restylane® have been proven to last twice as long as those from collagen injections.

Will my insurance cover my Restylane® treatments?
No. Since this is a cosmetic treatment – insurance typically does not cover the cost.

Is there any financing available for Restylane® treatments?
Yes – today there are many cosmetic procedures that can be financed with Care Credit financing.

Remember: If it doesn’t look natural – it doesn’t look good. Dr. Leong is skilled in achieving the most natural looking results possible - he’s a specialist and you can trust your face to him.
