Breast Reduction

BREAST REDUCTION

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size that is more proportionate to your body.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?

This procedure is an excellent option for those with disproportionately large breasts looking for a smaller size to suit their body type. Overly large breasts can cause physical strains such as neck or back discomfort and under-breast rashes. It’s important to note that the emotional discomfort often associated with having large breasts is as significant of a factor as physical distress and pain.

PROCEDURE

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia through incisions on your breasts to remove excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin. There are different excision techniques, such as liposuction, but it all depends on the amount of breast tissue removed. Your condition and breast composition will determine the method used to reduce the size of your breasts, and the amount of reduction desired, all discussed in your pre-operatory consultation.

RECOVERY

You can expect some tiredness, discomfort, and pain for a few days after the surgery.  You’ll wear a post-operative bra for a couple of weeks and have some dressings over your incisions for a few days. Most patients can return to work after two weeks and are cleared to do physical activity between 6-8 weeks.

RESULTS

Breast reduction results are immediately visible. Although there’ll be some initial swelling, it will subside over time, and incision lines will fade. Satisfaction with your new image should continue to grow as you recover.

COST

The cost for a Breast reduction can vary depending on each patient’s individual needs, but it is typically $9,000 – $9,500.
